SOS trout
Climate change poses a threat to the trout population in Själsöån. With the SOS Trout project, the Swedish Sportfishing and Fisheries Conservation Association aims to improve the situation through preventive measures.
About the project
The project will work within the Själsöån catchment area on preventive measures to limit negative consequences for the trout population in the river due to climate change.
The sport fishermen want to find innovative methods to increase the survival of fry, partly by relocating fry to the sea, but also by investigating and proposing hydrological measures in the catchment area to store water during surplus periods and provide water during critical dry periods to avoid fish deaths.
They also want to create a local collaboration to ensure long-term engagement for the river's fish population.

Leader Gutes board decided to prioritize the application for project support on 2025-02-20.
The Leader Gutes board decided to grant an extended budget with reference to additional co-financing 2025-05-22.
The Swedish Board of Agriculture approved the application for project support 2025-10-31.
The purpose of the project:
To work within the Själsöån catchment area on preventive measures to limit negative consequences for the trout population in the river due to climate change.
The project's goals are to:
- develop a systematic methodology for fry rescue.
- carry out a comprehensive hydrological investigation for the Själsöån catchment area and based on this, project prioritized measures for returning water to the river during dry periods.
- implement information efforts to increase awareness among those affected within the catchment area.
- to create a local collaboration group for long-term cooperation around a viable sea trout population and sustainable water management.
