Below we provide some examples of various projects that have been implemented with support from Leader Gute during the previous program period 2014-2022. Perhaps they can inspire you to develop your own development projects in your area?

Unused wool becomes fertilizer

Not all wool is suitable for textile production. One possibility is to use this wool for pellets for fertilization and soil improvement. In this project, RISE in collaboration with, among others, the Wool Office in Endre has further developed this concept.

The Leader Gute-supported project ”Product development and marketing of Gotlandic fish” became an important part of the journey towards a new small-scale and sustainable fishing industry on the island.

New activity park in Fårösund

In Fårösund, many saw the need for a new activity park. Both to promote exercise and health but also to create an important meeting place. With support from Leader Gute, the activity park is now in place.

App for more local events

How can better conditions be created for more local events? It is not always easy for organizers, artists, and venue owners to find each other. And often, funding is the major stumbling block. The app Easy Arr has been used here to facilitate more local events.

Trash becomes jewelry

Gotland Garbage in Lärbro received support for a mini-project to develop its production of jewelry and other items made from waste such as old plastic and used face masks.

Renovation of old sea marks

An important part of Gotland's history is about shipping. In the past, it was guided by various sea marks including ”kummel”. In this project, the association Hus Hamnrätt in Ronehamn has carried out a thorough renovation of Getorskär kummel and Langård kummel.

Virtual fences for lambs

In this project, RISE received support to test virtual fencing technology with lamb producers Karin and Marcus Westberg at Hamra Norrgårde. The project received significant media attention and became a crucial part of a larger development process.

Facility for textile value chain

”Textile Factory Gotland” is the Leader Gute-supported project that has become GUTI (Gotland's Wool and Textile Industry). In this pilot facility, a textile value chain is being developed on the island. From lamb to finished garments.

Estonian Swedes buried in Gotland

Around Gotland, there are now information brochures and signs from the project ”From ai to åi”. Through QR codes, one can access stories about over 200 Estonian Swedes who were buried in Gotland during the 20th century. The project has been carried out by the Estonian Swedes' Cultural Association with support from Leader Gute.
