The goal of the project is to establish and make accessible a meeting place by Gothemsån with a particular focus on the target groups children, youth, and adults with disabilities as well as individuals in involuntary loneliness, and to carry out at least 10 activities that promote outdoor life and 10 activities that increase understanding of and knowledge about the aquatic environment.
About the project
Through previous collaborations with local organizations and associations around activities for children and youth with various types of disabilities, Sportfiskarna has identified not only a need for meaningful and easily accessible leisure activities in outdoor environments but also the need to convey courage and self-confidence to overcome social barriers to utilizing a specific location. In order to be able to engage in the aforementioned activities, physical adaptations of accessibility may also be required for the target group to be able to get close to the water.
Within the framework of this project, Sportfiskarna will involve the target group in the work of creating a place where these children, youth, and also adults can engage in fishing and outdoor life based on each individual's own conditions. Through collaboration with the organization RSMH (National Association for Social and Mental Health), an additional target group is added to the project where the need to find a context and a community to find security and well-being is particularly high. In addition to experience-based activities and efforts to present the location to the target group, there is also the goal of creating an interest in water and nature through various knowledge-enhancing and environmental improvement efforts regarding life below the surface. This, in turn, should bring individuals from the participating target groups into a meaningful and health-promoting context.
Through this, Sportfiskarna believes and hopes that the project will contribute to the target group not only wanting to stay and engage at the meeting place but also feeling a responsibility for the environment related to this location, which will likely further enhance the experience value. The background to the knowledge-enhancing efforts regarding life below the surface being connected is that Sportfiskarna, through its activities, is constantly reminded of the need to spread and raise awareness among the public regarding underwater environments.
