Pilot project to reduce waste at local food producers through innovation

The project is about developing and testing a digital platform together with local producers and customers where producers can easily show their current range to restaurants, shops and public services. By matching supply and demand in real time, the amount of food that would otherwise be at risk of going to waste is reduced.

The project includes user studies, design, technical development and a pilot phase where the solution is tested in practice to ensure actual environmental benefits and long-term effects.

The platform is being developed with a flexible structure that makes it possible to adapt it to other wholesalers and local actors around Sweden. To function in new contexts, some adaptation to each wholesaler's specific conditions is required, such as their order management system, customer groups and local producers. However, the basic structure allows for smooth further development, which means that more actors can use the solution to reduce waste and strengthen sales of locally produced food in their region.
