Regenerative Hejdeby
Nordic Sport & Event and Hejdeby Local Heritage Association will collaborate with landowners and residents in the parish to work on nature and environmental issues, focusing on water and land. The activities primarily aim to develop biodiversity, protect environmental values, and increase local knowledge about the environment and nature.
About the project
Nordic Sport & Event AB organizes Gotland Grand National, the world's largest enduro competition in Hejdeby parish. The company will collaborate in this project with Hejdeby Local Heritage Association as well as local landowners and residents to create environmentally regenerative development in the area.
A number of concrete measures will be implemented – including workdays where participants from the heritage association and residents in the parish work on tasks such as clearing and ditch maintenance. This is to improve the environment and biodiversity in the area, where large areas are on the verge of overgrowth while water flow has changed due to extensive clear-cutting. These measures will also contribute to increased community in the parish.
During the project, members of the heritage association as well as residents and landowners in the parish will be given the opportunity to develop their knowledge of nature and environmental issues. This is to increase engagement, collaboration, and capacity regarding their own continued local environmental work moving forward. In this context, environmental expert Nils Ryrholm will be hired as a trainer.

Leader Gutes board decided to prioritize the application for project support 2026-05-28.
The purpose of the project:
To create a better future environment and nature in Hejdeby while also increasing community in the parish.
The project's goals are to:
- Create a better water flow in primarily two large areas in Hejdeby.
- Conduct a training session for parish residents with environmental expert Nils Ryrholm.
- Conduct 5 weekends of practical efforts in environmental work together with the heritage association.
