sustainable water for the future
On Gotland, there is a challenge with too much water in the autumn and winter as well as too little water in the spring and summer. This project aims to support the development of water solutions that work in the local community.
About the project
With ongoing climate change, the challenges increase when there are long periods of precipitation and long periods of drought. There is a great need to gather knowledge about smart solutions from other countries and other parts of Sweden. Locally, in some parishes, there is knowledge that would be beneficial if it could be spread further. There is also ongoing research, for example in Sudret, but the results are difficult for the average person on Gotland to access.
The project will support the development of water solutions that work in the local community. The purpose is to gather knowledge about different water solutions, to spread information about smart solutions. To support individuals, parishes, and businesses to achieve more sustainable water use. The project will look at solutions for collecting water (ponds, wetlands, etc.), to be able to reuse drainage water, support strategies to prevent flooding, ensure that there is no flooding, and to use water in smart ways.
The project will also work out a proposal for a model for how to continue sharing knowledge developed privately, publicly, and non-profit after the project.
The project works, among others, together with the Eastern Gotland Water Council, Emil Jakobsson Ala, Hallfreda Egendom SLU in Barlingbo, LRF Gotland, Clas Jakobsson in Linde, and Christina Huhtasari.

The project's goals are to:
- Raise the level of knowledge about water issues within the private, non-profit, and public sectors by conducting eight workshops and three study trips.
- Develop a method for how to process issues together with landowners and achieve mutual benefits for all involved.
- Produce instructional and informational films.
- Create a website or alternatively build a collection of knowledge-filled web pages about water with collaborating partners.
- Develop a business model for continued collaboration and knowledge building on the theme of water.
