Formulate your Project
The first step towards an application for project support is to go from idea to project. That is to say, to formulate a development project that fits the leader method and Leader Gute's strategy. Here we describe what is important to consider in this work
Align with the leader method
For a project to be eligible for project support, it must initially align with the leader method. This means that the project should take into account sustainability, equality, and inclusion.
It is also fundamental that the project should:
- Start from a broad local need
- Be anchored in collaboration between local actors
- Provide benefits for many in the community
This can be ensured, for example, with simple survey studies among those who live and work in the community and/or local dialogue meetings. It is good to document this type of research and meetings to later be able to make a clear and good application for support.
NOTE! When it comes to project support for businesses, the benefit is focused on one or a few actors but has a positive effect in the community. It can be, for example, an industry or entrepreneurs in a parish collaborating to develop a product or service.
Match Leader Gute's strategy
To be able to apply for support, the project must also fit into Leader Gute's strategy for the program period 2023-2027.
This means that the project should fall within one of the three intervention areas in the strategy:
- Sustainable business
- Live and stay on the entire island
- Accelerating climate and energy transition
Applicants for project support should be able to explain how their project fits into one of the strategy's intervention areas. It is therefore wise to check your project idea against Leader Gute's strategy early in the process.

Needs, goals, activities, and budget
When the project idea is anchored in the community according to the leader method and fits into one of Leader Gute's three intervention areas, it is good to check that the fundamental pieces are clear:
- Local need with broad anchoring – why do we want to implement the initiative?
- Clear goals – what do we want to achieve to meet the need?
- Activity plan – how will we achieve the goals and meet the need? What concrete activities are required?
- Budget – calculate the costs of the project and its activities.
Everything should be interconnected and based on needs and goals. It is not possible to apply for support for an activity or intervention without clearly describing how it will meet locally anchored needs and goals.
Main applicant and working group
It is important that there is a main applicant with an organization number for projects intending to apply for Leader Gute's project support. It can be an association, a company, or an organization.
Experience shows that a working group with different competencies is needed – a project of this kind is not a one-person job.
Here, both those who can handle administration and finance, and those who can practically carry out the planned activities are needed.
